This reference is very special because the black bezel version of the 79220 was only made for roughly 6 months before being discontinued. Tudor released the first Heritage Black Bay during Baselworld in 2012. The watch was clearly inspired by the vintage diving watches from the 1950s and 1960s. Different elements on the watch recall the iconic characteristics of the vintage piece such as the oversized crown, the lugs with large bevels, the bezel with red triangle and the Tudor snowflake hands. Tudor was known for using a variety of signed Rolex parts, including hands, bracelets and cases, but using ETA or Valjoux movements. This early version of the Tudor Black Bay is fitted with the ETA-2824. The layout of the dial is also different on these pieces with the Tudor Rose at 12 o’clock and the curved last line of text at 6 o’clock, similar to the vintage models. In 2016, Tudor introduced a new dial configuration and their in-house chronometer calibre to replace the ETA movement. This part
