Legendary Philippines Chief Lapu Lapu, the namesake of many a delicious tiki bar cocktail, looks ferocious and victorious as he holds aloft the severed head of famous Spanish explorer Ferdinand Magellan. Based on the 1521 historical account of Magelllan's crew, this image depicts the gruesome end of Captain Magellan and offers a cautionary tale for the audacity of western imperialism.
