Red Coral Perch Art on Canvas in a Green Bijou Frame. Red Coral Perch or Swallowtail sea perch is a species of marine ray-finned fish from the grouper and sea bass family. It is native to the eastern Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea. Its colorĀ  from pink through to red, it has 3 yellow lines on its head, it shows brown blotches along its back, and occasionally when breeding those of the males turn red in color. In addition they can be found around Portugal south to Angola as well as northern Namibia where they are also commonly called Marine Goldfish. This species is a protogynous hermaphrodite, all individuals hatch as females. Each time a male dies, one of the larger females changes her sex and becomes male. The majority are female throughout their lives and even a large school of these fish will contain only a few males.
