Canton Glass Company Antique EAPG Dewdrop Hobnail Dessert Bowl Collection of Five, c.1885-1902

These are magical pieces of American glass.  These extraordinary "berry bowls", with their crimped, ruffled rims and pointed hobnails rest upon a remarkable footed base of doughnut-shaped raised discs that are separated by long triangles; they appear as two reflective eyes and a nose! A look into the bowl from the top reveals a pattern of prismatic dots, separated into four sections by exterior vertical projections which run along the mold lines. The center itself reflects the underside which is a group of seven pressed hobnails which give the illusion of grommets. The Canton Glass Company (1883-1999) began operations in Canton, Ohio before a fire burned the plant down in 1890. Operations soon moved to Marion, Indiana where the "Dew Drop" pattern continued to be produced by Canton Works, under the umbrella of the National Glass Company.
