Cauldon Antique Royal Blue and Gold Gilt Demitasse Cup/Saucer Set, c.1862-1911
Somewhere between 1862 and 1911, a buyer with fine taste graced their home with this beaded gold and royal blue demitasse set. The craftsmanship is striking, a work of art and meticulous precision. A heavily glazed royal blue border edged in gold dots, encloses a design of beaded gilt panels that frame cream colored centers showcasing floral and gold decoration. The blooming pink, blue, and green leaf floral centers themselves are framed in heavy gold scrolls. With lavish scrolled handles of gilt, the gold rimmed cup interior, in white, is touched up with a dainty scallop and dot detail. Hold both translucent cup and saucer to the light and you can see you fingers from the other side. So ornate yet delicate. This antique fine porcelain treasure was created in England by Cauldon/ Brown-Westhead Moore & Co., (1862 backstamp) for D.B. Bedell & Co., New York. Not much information is found about D.B.
