Paragon England Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip St. Lawrence Seaway Bone China Tea Cup and Saucer, 1959
On June 26, 1959, in Quebec, Canada, Queen Elizabeth II and President Dwight D. Eisenhower formally opened The St. Lawrence Seaway, also known as "Highway H2O", a Canadian-US marine seaway system of locks and canals for vessels traveling from the Atlantic Ocean to the Great Lakes. This Paragon 1959 scalloped and gold trimmed, aquamarine teacup and saucer pair commemorates the moment with a glorious tan lion, unicorn, and red accented crown. The "EP" initials for Elizabeth and Philip are set in the white center interior of the cup, along with a pink rose and a blue banner for "Canada", spread along the base and dated "1959". Reflective gold maple leaf and four leaf clover pattern to the upper aquamarine interior adds a brilliant elegance which is matched to the saucer as well. Of maple leaf garlands and two pink roses, the saucer is bordered by the words, "The Opening Of The St. Lawrence Seaway" and "1959". Classy and stately the British way.
