The X-Men comics & movies are based on the civil rights era, Black people are the mutants, Professor X is Martin Luther King Jr. and Magneto is based on Malcolm X.  The same way the mutants were discriminated against for being born with powers in the comics/shows/movies, is the same way original people all over the planet are oppressed and marginalized for being born with black/brown/yellow skin.
