The work is a collection of correspondences concerning a dispute between the British Navy and the British Army, over the division of "looted" American property after the siege and surrender of Charleston, SC during the Revolutionary War. The siege and the capture of Charleston were jointly coordinated by British General Sir Henry Clinton and Admiral Marriott Arbuthnot, who clashed over the captured American property.
