Shop Notes: Originally published in 1974, this second cookbook from the NC State University Women's Club is a fine of collection of recipes, but the best part are the tips and tricks for hosting large parties and gatherings provided by a veritable who's who of North Carolina politics in the 1970s and 80s.  Many North Carolina buildings are still named after these families and I can assure you that these were the ladies in Raleigh that knew how to throw a party for five or five-hundred.   The recipes in Favorite Foods from North Carolina Kitchens contain a wide variety of popular recipes at the time, but the regional recipes are really the stars of the show.  Brunswick Stew, Moravian Cookies, Apple Stack Cake, Apple Dapple Cake, Peach Ice Cream, and an entire chapter on "Salads" that features a veritable museum's worth of Jell-o salads.
