This is the first of three paintings I'm creating for a new series entitled "Architecture". It is my first attempt at using the drawings and images from a few of my favorite architectural icons to inspire original compositions and paintings.  I selected Steven Holl's design for the Contemporary Museum of Art Kiasma in Helsinki, Finland to be my first inspiration. This painting utilizes a floor plan, a building section, and a single image of the museum's most dramatic facade to create overlapping shapes as positive-negative fields and patterns that play off each other, creating new shapes and patterns in the process to play with.
