This handmade shawl is a wearable work of art. It is truly a one-of-a-kind piece with elevated styling notes and a sophisticated palette. The underlying knitting pattern is Exploration Station by Stephen West, extensively modified to include three sections of embroidery. Toward the nape of the neck, I embroidered subtle chevron details into stockinette. In the section that falls around the top of the shoulders, I embroidered a moss stitch into garter. And toward the base of the shawl, for a bit of drama, I added the Sashiko stitch called Persimmon Flower. I couldn't be more pleased with how the embroidery enriches the underlying knitting. As the knitting becomes more complex as the shawl expands, so too does the embroidery. I also love how the variegation of the yarn I used for the embroidery adds an element of mystery to the piece, really enticing the eye to linger.
