Antique 19th Century Indian Bidriware Pandan Silver & Brass Casket Jewelry Box

Antique early 19th century Indian Bidriware silver and brass Pandan casket, Circa 1800.Bidriware is credited to the Bahamani Sultans who were the rulers of Bidar in the Northeast part of the state of Karnataka, India in the 14th & 15th centuries, the artform has its roots in ancient Persia and was thought to be brought to India by the 13th century Sufi mystic Mu'in al-Din Chishti. A pandan box was used in India to store betel nut or spices. Bidriware is made of white brass that is blackened and then inlaid with silver. This very handsome lidded casket is a wonderful example of bidriware, the casket having a sloped top hinged lid profusely inlaid with silver in an organic trailing vine design. The base of the box having corresponding inlaid silver design and each side is applied with a circular boss which also has silver inlay, the casket is raised on four scroll legs. The interior box has been recently recovered in a burgundy felt and would make a very attractive jewelry casket or
