
Monumental Antique Irish Carved Mahogany Breakfront Bookcase Bibliotheque 1850
A very stately & monumental antique Irish mahogany breakfront bookcase/bibliotheque, circa 1850.The bookcase of break-fronted form disassembles into five sections for ease of movement, to the top is a stepped cornice with four glazed doors below, each door with a column support having a carved spiral base and a ribbed column above that is capped with a carved Corinthian capital. The glazed doors can all be locked and the original key is present, the doors enclose the original shelves, that can be adjusted for the total height of the bookcase and therefore can receive books of any size, including oversized books of large format.The base of the bookcase has four cupboards with square fielded panels, each doors carved with a vertical frieze carved with circular overlapping carved discs, the bookcase is raised on a plinth base.The bookcase is made from the finest figured flame mahogany, retains the original finish and is in excellent antique condition, this very grand antique bookcase
