The New Mercury business resource group is named in honor of the Mercury 13, the thirteen American women who successfully underwent the same physiological screening tests as the Astronauts selected by NASA in 1959 for Project Mercury. Though they never flew to space as NASA astronauts, they proved women were equally capable as men and advocated for NASA to include women in the astronaut program in later years.
