The Lagunas de Ilamatepec are situated near the town of Santa Ana, which is in the western part of El Salvador, close to the border with Guatemala. They are part of the larger Ilamatepec Volcano, an active stratovolcano and the highest volcano in El Salvador, standing at 2,381 meters (7,812 feet) above sea level. The lagoons are located within the volcanic crater and are formed by water that has accumulated in the caldera, creating serene and beautiful lakes surrounded by steep volcanic cliffs. One of the main activities for visitors is the hike to the crater’s edge, which offers breathtaking views of the lagoon and the surrounding mountains. While the Ilamatepec volcano is active
