(This painting is hanging in the United States Capitol Rotunda) The Speedwell was one of two ships, the other being the Mayflower, that was to take the Pilgrims to the New World. At about 60 tons, the Speedwell was the smaller of the two ships. Both ships set sail for America from the port of Southhampton England on August 5, 16
