The company was founded in 1886 by the aristocrat Ángel Gómez de Arteche, Duke of Moctezuma de Tultengo. This nobleman, a direct descendant of the last Aztec emperor, settled in Haro where he produced one of the great myths of Rioja in the 19th century; the red Moctezuma. In 1916 the company was acquired by the brothers Agustín and Jesús Gómez Cruzado, who gave him his name definitively. The winery is strategically located in the Haro Station neighborhood, between La Rioja Alta and Muga.
