It was vinified using 47% whole clusters and matured for nearly 34 months in 72% new French oak barrels. Although I tasted it on July 6, not long after its bottling on April 27, it was nonetheless expressive and complex, with a wildness and rusticity that seems to define this grape at its best. It has an opaque ruby color and explosive aromas reminiscent of blueberries, blood orange, violet, clove and fresh tobacco leaves. The full-bodied palate is youthfully concentrated and floral.
