California Vulture by John James Audubon Art Print

An archival premium Quality Art Print of the California Vulture by Audubon for sale by Brandywine General Store. John James Audubon painted the California Vulture around 1838, this large bird was among the last that he painted for his book The Birds of America. This large vulture was plate or picture number 426 in the first Havell edition of this ornithology masterpiece. Audubon said of this magnificent bird "Of the three species of Vultures which inhabit the southern parts of North America, this one is much superior in size and inhabits the valleys and plains of the western slopes of the continent and has not been observed eastward of the Rocky Mountains". It is believed that the painting of this bird was not produced from nature, as it is not known to history that Audubon actually ever visited the California region.
