The setting is in a marsh and the adult male is getting ready to snatch a colorful moth to eat. This bird was drawn by Audubon for his great ornithology book, The Birds of America in which this was plate or picture number 333 in the 1st Havell edition. Ardea Virescens - Audubon describes the Green Heron in the book thus "This species is more generally known than any of our Herons, it being very extensively dispersed in spring, summer, and early autumn. It ranges along our many rivers to great distances from the sea, being common on the Missouri and its branches, from which it spreads to all such localities as are favourable to its habits.
