Pre-Columbian Spiral
This wonderful spiral design was created by making a pressing in clay of a piece of pre-Columbian Mesoamerican pottery. This design would have originated in a region of the Americas that extend from Central Mexico through Northern Costa Rica during a time prior to the arrival of Christopher Columbus in the Americas (1492AD). The spiral in Mesoamerica was a very important symbol in nature as well as for religion. The spiral is believed to be early representations of wind and water, created from the pattern of coiled serpents and from cross sections of naturally spiraling seashells.
