Confederate Flag Bearer 4th Texas
This toy soldier, depicts the Confederate Flagbearer of the 4th Texas Infantry during the American Civil War. This figure is part of the 1st Issue Flag series, which includes the famous 'Wigfall flag' presented to the 1st Texas Infantry in the summer of 1861. The flag was sewn by Brigadier General Louis T. Wigfall's wife, Charlotte, and features the official Confederate Battle Flag with a large Lone Star at the center. In addition to the 1st Texas Infantry, the Wigfall family also provided battle flags for the 4th and 5th Texas Infantry of the Texas Brigade. These flags were presented to the regiments while they were encamped at Dumfries, Virginia in the winter of 1861-1862. The flags were then carried throughout several major battles, including the Peninsula Campaign, the Seven Days battles, Second Manassas, South Mountain, and Antietam. Due to the heavy damage sustained during these battles, the flags were retired and the 4th Texas Infantry was issued a Richmond Depot Third Bunting I
