Union Iron Brigade in Gaiters Tearing Cartridge

This toy soldier is a stunning representation of the Union Iron Brigade in Gaiters Tearing Cartridge.  Contrary to popular belief, this unit from the Midwest actually wore the same uniform as the regular U.S. Army during the time period. This includes the iconic Hardee pattern felt hat with brass regimental number and company letters, a nine-button wool frock coat with light blue piping for infantry, sky blue kersey trousers, and white gaiters. This uniform was strictly enforced by General John Gibbon, a regular army officer from North Carolina who remained loyal to the Union.
