Otterness's sculptures of small plump figures with cylindrical limbs and round heads resemble the Pillsbury Doughboy or Michelin Tire Man. They seem humorous, but on close examination are really spiced with malevolence. Otterness believes art is a force to change society and so presents a critical review of the follies of human behavior---of politics, relations between men and women, and the destruction of the environment.
