Afrique Ancienne (Ancient Africa / Barbary / Libya / Egypt / Arabia / Mountains of the Moon / etc.) Issued Paris, c. 1810 by Lapie (?). Engraved by Chamouin. Of particular note for the naming of the erroneous/ mythical interior range Mts. of the Moon. This apocryphal range appears on a selection of varying maps of the continent and moves around with a delightful regularity. The range is literally to be found in likely over 100 different locations. A collectors dream of uncharted territory for an exhaustive cartobibliography. Interesting and quite scarce early-19th century antique engraved map with original outline hand color. Includes a charming title vignette engraved scene lower left. Well-preserved example of this uncommon / scarce map. Sheet measures c. 10 1/4" x 14". Printed area measures c. 8 1/2" x 12". [R11303]
