Engraved frontis portrait in volume 1.  Attractive full antiquarian leather bindings with mottled boards, slightly raised & gilt bands, gilt title lettering on contrasting leather labels. Set is physically old and shows some signs of handling and time. Bindings age worn but still appealing, leather and joints dried with some surface crackling and small spots of chipping, rubbed but still supple, some joints splitting or tender, set remains overall very attractive as an object. Note- the (internal) hinges of Vol. 1 were repaired long ago with what looks to be cello tape and the joints show evidence of repair as well, but both covers still well and firmly attached.
