Ebonized Walnut Scoop

Our ebonized walnut wood scoop is inspired by Japanese ladle designs and features a modernized, tapered bowl that dips easily into coffee, pasta, grains, snacks and other dry goods. The convex bottom gives the bowl a floating appearance while resting. An elongated handle reaches into deep containers.  The unique ebony (black) color is created using a natural staining method of soaking in bark tea and iron oxide. This process transforms and darkens the fibers of the wood within rather than sitting on top of the wood.  Hours of workmanship distinguish this item - the two parts crafted separately until combined with precise mortise and tenon joinery. The bowl is briefly lathe-turned, then undergoes detailed adjustments to balance the weight and angle of the bowl to the extended handle.
