This CD presents premiere recordings of four Yehudi Wyner orchestral works. Wyner's Piano Concerto, Chiavi in Mano was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in Music in 2006. Performed by the work's dedicatees, Robert Levin and the Boston Symphony Orchestra conducted by Robert Spano, the piece is a tour-de-force of high spirits and compositional brilliance. Culminating with its boogie-woogie coda, Wyner pulls off one surprise after another as Levin, Spano and the BSO revel in this colorful and high-spirited masterpiece. Wyner's Cello Concerto: Prologue and Narrative, the longest work on this program, is a much more introspective score. It is performed by the brilliant young German cello virtuoso, Maximilian Hornung and the Odense Symphony Orchestra of Denmark.
