Tall Telephone - Shelling Pea Seeds

Tall Telephone (Alderman) climbs 5–6 feet and rewards the trellis with fat pods stuffed with 8–10 sweet peas. An English heirloom from the late 1800s, it’s prized for rich flavor and long picking windows. Peas fix nitrogen and bring protein and vitamin C to the plate. Sow as soon as soil can be worked, give sturdy support, and keep vines mulched to cool the roots. Pick daily at plump but still green for the sweetest bowls of peas you’ll taste all spring.
