Mueller Mosaic Tile Plaque Patriotic Shield

A large tile plaque by the Mueller Mosaic Tile Company in wonderfully curdled Arts and Crafts glazes from the First World War era. The tile shows a shield containing the American flag and Great Britain's' Union Jack under a crown, showing the close alliance of the two countries. It measures 10" tall, 6 3/4" wide and 1" thick. The hand cut slab of red clay has grooves on the back for installation and a hole incised into the top edge to hold a wire so that the tile can be hung on the wall as a plaque. Unsigned, as most Mueller tiles. Excellent original condition with no chips cracks or repairs.
