Parosphromenus phoenicurus, also known as the Red-finned Licorice Gourami is a small freshwater fish belonging to the family Osphronemidae. It is found only in the blackwater swamps area near Kota Kerincikiri, on the Indonesian island of Sumatra. Adult males of this species typically reach a maximum length of 4 cm (1.6 in), while females are slightly smaller. Their body is elongated and laterally compressed, with a dark brown to blackish coloration on the back and a lighter brown coloration on the sides. The most striking feature of P. phoenicurus is its bright red fins, which include the dorsal, anal, and caudal fins. In the wild, P. phoenicurus is found in slow-moving and shaded water bodies with a pH between 4.0 and 6.0, and a temperature range of 22 to 28°C (71
