For two decades, The Garage served as the centerpiece of the live music scene in downtown Winston-Salem. Under the visionary guidance of Richard Emmett and eventually Tucker Tharpe, the venue was a spirited blend of personality, creativity, grit, and atmosphere. It welcomed those from all walks, showcased a variety of live talent, and anchored the downtown entertainment district in a time when the city was just re- discovering its potential. For all of us who carry fond memories of The Garage, the legend lives on.
