Opalescent

This series was inspired by my Great Grandmother, Opal Wilkerson.  She worked as a seamstress, and would save fabric scraps for her own projects.  In our family, she is known for her beautiful, hand-stitched patchwork quilts.  Some of my earliest memories are from playing under her quilting looms.  Many of her quilts have been passed down as family heirlooms and now my kids have her quilts on their beds.  I admire her ability to take what was viewed as waste, and turn it into something beautiful and long-lasting. 10x20 Acrylic on Birch
