Once a vital tool used for carving canoes and woodwork across the Marquesas Islands, the Kee Toki holds deep cultural meaning. More than just a tool, it symbolized craftsmanship, strength, and connection to ancestral knowledge. This exceptional piece was entirely handmade on the island of Nuku Hiva. The blade is carved from volcanic stone and securely bound to a handle crafted from Oceanic Rosewood and polished cattle bone. The binding is made from traditional coconut sennit cord. Adorned with tikis, this adze serves not only as a tribute to ancestral traditions but also as a protection. In Marquesan belief, tiki represents etua - deified ancestors whose spiritual power watches over and guides the living.
