Sudden Encounter

Encountering a Cape buffalo in Africa can be a dangerous situation. The inspiration for "Sudden Encounter" stems from a moment when I unexpectedly came face to face with one of these powerful animals. While waiting for a bush plane, I was taking photos of zebras and giraffes when I found myself near a patch of tall brush. Suddenly, I noticed movement and saw a large cape buffalo emerging from the thicket. I cautiously began to back away, making sure not to turn my back on the massive bull. Eventually, the buffalo lost interest and disappeared back into the brush.
