Ease to Grow: Easy Dormancy: No Native Range: Peaty wetlands of the Cape region of South Africa Zones: 8-9 (7-10) The Nestle-leafed Sundew, Drosera nidiformis, is a medium size, tropical with green leaves, cover with red tentacles that glisten nicely. It's similar in appearance to D. intermedia, but larger and tropical. It does a great job of catching insects with leaves that roll over onto its prey. D. nidiformis grows year round and prefers growing in open, sunny, boggy conditions in peaty soils. The flowers are pink, and one or two flowers open each day for several weeks. It flowers profusely in the summer months with lighter flowering throughout the year. It is self-fertile, and generously produces seeds that can be sown immediately or stored in cool, dry conditions for a year or more. D. nidiformis can become a wonderful "weed" in your carnivorous plant collection, and is an excellent terrarium plant. It is easy to grow and is a great beginner's plant.
