The hip-shaped traps have a distinctive bright red edge, midrib and ala (wing), with a v-shaped slit in the trap opening. They are slightly sweet in fragrance. H. heterodoxa divides regularly and forms nice colonies. The scent-less bell-shaped flowers are yellow, green and white. They bloom anytime during the year. In cultivation, these plant do well in a terrarium in an air-conditioned room with bright light. Fluorescent or LED plant lights with timers on 14 hours/day are recommended. Individuals often show nice red coloration on the inside and outside with red nectar spoons.
