Tawny Cotton grass, Eriophorum virginicum, is a medium size, perennial, bog sedge that develops showy, cottony tuffs of seedheads in the Fall. These "flowers" are tawny colored, a warm light, creamy tan, and are very pretty. They can be quite numerous and appear to float as a white fog over the bog. Plants form long, creeping rhizomes, and spread nicely through the bog garden, without crowding other plants. It prefers the open, wet ares of bogs and meadows. It is tolerant of shade. Spreads nicely from runners and seed. Water with rain/distilled water. Tawny Cotton grass adds nice color to the Fall Bog Garden. They grow well in and among Pitcher Plants.
