In Camargue, France, wild horses still graze and can be found along the beaches. I chose to draw this Camargue horse because something about him touched me. I use the highest quality professional art materials. To get those smooth colors, I used Faber-Castel Polychromos and Caran d'Ache Luminance colored pencils. These pencils are oil-based. The paper is Pastelmat, which I do not usually use for my colored pencils. It has a sandpaper quality, which allows for many more additional layers of pencil than traditional paper. I usually get about 6-11 layers of pigment, and here probably up to 20. The result is stunning in person, when you see the underlayers of color hint through the top layers.
