On October 13, 1917, in Fatima, Portugal, tens of thousands of people gathered because the three visionary children of Fatima had told them that Mary had promised a miracle that day. There was a heavy rain and the fields were sloppy with mud. Journalists were there, as well as police and government officials. Suddenly they all saw the sun dance. It swirled about in the sky, and drew closer to the earth. The muddy ground was dried up, as were the people's soaked clothing. The effect was seen fifty miles away. Communists and skeptics in the crowd were converted. The event was front page news in newspapers all over the world. This photograph was taken while the people were experiencing the miracle. We have spent six months, on and off, tinkering with our restoration. When restoring a photo, we usually aim for a modern, sharp-looking photograph. On this one though, we found that wasn't working.
