A friend of ours who has gone on to her reward said one time that they didn't need to nail Christ to the cross because love held him up there. In this beautiful and unusual painting, Christ is crucified amidst roses, to signify his suffering as well as his love. He died for us, out of love for us. Harry Clarke (1889-1931) was an Irish artist most noted for his stained glass windows. He had early talent as a child in the arts, and his father had a stained glass window company. In spite of his ill health, in his short life he accomplished 40 commissions for stained glass at churches in Ireland and Great Britain and elsewhere. Besides his stained glass work, he also did paintings and book illustrations. He was very accomplished in his life., but chronically ill. He died in his sleep on his way home to Dublin at age 42. This painting was done about 1920. (source: diseart.ie/about-harry-clarke)** IMPORTANT ** THE IMAGE IS SMALLER THAN THE PAPER! There is a blank border around the image. A
