Friar Taking the Eucharist from the Monastery – Carl Friedrich Lessing – Beautiful Catholic Art Print – Archival Quality
In this “Romantic Landscape with Monastery” as it’s sometimes called, a religious who looks like a Franciscan friar is carrying the Eucharist down the hill from the Monastery. He’s accompanied by an altar boy, and it’s not clear if he is taking it to some recluse, or, we think more likely, he is taking it to the little shrine in the lower left corner of the picture. There is a bench out by that shrine, perhaps for kneeling. For us, this is where the picture gets super romantic and ideal; we love the idea of kneeling before our Lord in that quiet and gorgeous setting. Karl Friedrich Lessing (1808–1880) was a German painter who was known for his splendid landscapes, often incorporating a Catholic element, such as a chapel or a worshipper. He was part of the Düsseldorf School of painting which was known for its detailed rendering of landscapes.
