Girl Praying with a Rose Garland – Hubert Salentin – Catholic Art – Catholic Gift – Archival Quality
The secluded woods have a mystical feel, and our young, faithful one is at an outdoor shrine, of which there used to be many. We like the peace of the place, the seclusion. We wish the world still had these jewels along the rode or walk, where one might stop and pray for a while before going on. We especially like in this picture the light at the far end of the path. It reminds us of the light of our destination. Hubert Salentin (1822-1910) was a German painter. He had been a blacksmith for fourteen years prior to that, and in his early middle age went to art school. He became a gentleman and a popular painter of the Dusseldorf school. He mainly painted warm-hearted scenes from rural German life, occasionally showing something from the people's Catholic lives, such as a baptism. He has another painting in our shop of a old mother and her grown daughter walking away from daily Mass. (source: wikipedia)** IMPORTANT ** The image is smaller than the paper!
