It is one of four angels decorating the tomb of the great 19th Century Catholic scientist, Louis Pasteur. The gorgeous colors and design are the work of the great 19th Century Catholic artist, Luc-Olivier Merson. It was finished about 1898, in the Art Nouveau style, one of our favorites, which was at its height of popularity. Angels are often messengers from God. The message of Christian hope is a strong thing. In the Bible, hope is a confident and sure, not some flimsy wish. Christ rose from the dead and said he would come back for us. Since we are sure he will do what he says, our hope is solid.
