Mary, Queen of All Saints, Pray for Us! – Matthäus Schiestl – Catholic Art Print – Catholic Gift Archival – Quality

Matthaeus Schiestl, one of our favorite Catholic artists, was very famous a hundred years ago but is little remembered today. Almost all of the work he did was Catholic, and all of it has a charming simplicity, even a humbleness. His style tended towards a folk-art look, as in this one, even rustic, at times with a bit of a wood cut look. He became famous enough to do postage stamps for the German government, but most of his work was to celebrate Jesus and His Saints. The German at the bottom says, Maria du Königin aller Heiligen, bete für uns, which means, Mary, Queen of All Saints, pray for us. With the village behind her, Mary is positioned as the Seat of the church, on her throne, with her Holy Child on her lap. He is blessing us. Around her are an assortment of medieval Saints - a queen, a bishop, a knight, a monk, a child, working folk and others. We have some guesses as to who each of them are, but they are also standing in for us, who are trying to live by standing with Mary an
