At age 17, she was visiting a Carmel monastery near her home, when the Mother Superior said another Carmelite nun named Therese from the town of Lisieux had just died. She gave a copy of the first edition of Therese's Story of a Soul, which was being circulated amongst the Carmelites, to young Elizabeth. It changed her life.
