St. Gianna Molla loved babies! She was a pediatric physician in Italy and a mother of 6 children, Pierluigi, Mariolina, and Laura, followed by two miscarriages.The 6th pregnancy brought with it both baby and, tragically, a tumor on her uterus. The surgeons recommended a hysterectomy, which would have killed the baby. She chose not to have the operation in order to preserve the child's life. Gianna ended up dying soon after the baby was born from complications in the surgery. Like our Lord, she sacrificed her life in order that another might have life. She was canonized in 2004. Her Feast Day is April 28. She is the Patron Saint of the Pro-Life Cause, as well as a patron of pregnant mothers and babies. We have restored and enhanced this photo to match the others in our line of Saint photographs.
