The Sophie was designed in collaboration with Portland ceramic artist Bobbie Specker. Our slip-cast parts are handmade in Portland and have variations and imperfections inherent to the artisan craft process.  Namesake: Sophie Scholl was a German student and anti-Nazi political activist within the White Rose non-violent resistance group. She had a talent for drawing and painting, and was an avid reader with an interest in philosophy and theology.
