Penobscot Blue Ribbon 5.0: Northern German Altbier

The winning recipe for the fifth (almost) annual Maine Homebrewers Competition came to us from Jim Rausch, a veteran homebrewer who beat out several excellent submissions from some local brewers of note, including a few past champions! His altbier is a smooth and malty ale that is perfect for fall. Substantial enough to warm you up on a cool evening, but not overpowering. This is a great version of a hard to find beer style. Color: 14 SRM. IBU: 29. ABV: 5.9%. Extract kits include liquid and/or dry malt extract, plus crushed specialty grains with a grain sock to steep.
