Last year I stumbled upon a pattern that was so interesting and bizarre. By the geometric wizardry of mathematician Roger Penrose it all fits together with no space or overlaps while having fivefold rotational symmetry. I immediately thought I’ve got to figure out how to pull it off in pattern welded steel. Shortly after I found myself down at Steve Schwarzer’s shop and together we spent a collective 20 hours just getting a billet of it to a forge welded state.      This petite chef is the thinner, lighter laser, with just the tiniest bit of convex to it. A great middle ground between a parer and a full sized chef. With this blade I decided to continue the pattern with the spacer, carefully shaping and joining little rhombuses of G10. Adding to the complexity of the handle everything is heirloom fit, each element slightly proud and chamfered. Despite everything being very stable, material movement is always a possibility. That small detail ensures no sharp edges will ever appear t
